Task force arrests illegal courier service operators in Accra

A special task force acting on behalf of Ghana’s Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission (PCSRC) arrested 13 illegal courier service operators in Accra this week. Courier companies operating in Ghana are obliged to register with the PCSRC and have a valid licence.

Isaac Annan Riverson, the Chief Executive of the PCSRC, said the task force ran a major “unannounced operation” on the premises of the illegal couriers earlier this week because, although they had been cautioned on “numerous occasions”, they had failed to license their operations.

The task force closed down the operators’ offices and – in some cases – also impounded their motorbikes.

The task force persuaded three companies to pay their licensing and renewal fees on the spot – so they are back in the fold.

Riverson described the operation as a “success”, adding that the task force will be cracking down on other “illegal” couriers throughout Ghana.
