Plans announced for new logistics skills training centre

Daventry City Council has announced today (12 June) that plans are being developed to provide a new logistics skills centre in the Daventry area. The Council added that the current thinking is that the “best option” for the location of this facility, which currently has a working title of the ‘Logistics Centre for  Skills and Innovation’,would be the Prologis RFI DIRFT site, on land to the east of the A5 near Daventry.

The Centre is promoted by Logistics Skills Development Ltd, who have the support of the University of Northampton.

Daventry District Council and South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership are keen to see the idea develop into a bid to secure funding in 2015 using European Union money.

“The Centre intends to help employers find the right people and the training they need to increase productivity and growth,” said Daventry City Council. “It will help individuals find the right skills, training and opportunities they need to begin and/or progress their careers. A key priority is to develop a Centre of Excellence to address the driver shortage for large goods vehicles.”
