Doddle calculates green benefits of Click and Commute
Doddle, the company which is building a network of parcel shops located at UK rail stations, has calculated the environmental benefits of its “click and commute” service. The company’s 35 stores (which joined the newly-launched DPD Pickup network this week) can accept over 40,000 deliveries a day – and Doddle says that this offers the UK supply chain “a long term solution for consolidating parcel delivery, resulting in fewer vans clogging up UK roads every day”.
In a statement issued today (25 June), Doddle said that it “reduces the environmental impact created by home delivery, by enabling carriers to make multiple customer deliveries to each Doddle store”.
The statement continued: “Doddle’s calculations show that in 14 minutes a van driver can make four deliveries to individual homes, compared to 50 deliveries to one Doddle store. Over the course of a 10 hour shift, this results in 133 parcels being delivered to homes, compared to 600 deliveries into Doddle stores.
“Applying this consolidation benefit across the entire market of 1 billion parcel deliveries, would result in the removal of a staggering 18,696 vans off UK roads every day. Only 5,342 vans would be required per day to deliver 1 billion parcels to Doddle stores or similar consolidated delivery points, which is equivalent to eliminating 2846 tonnes of CO2 emissions every day.”
