Google Express announces US Midwest expansion

Google Express has announced that it is expanding its service in the United States, by offering overnight deliveries in the Midwest “across six different states and the Greater Chicagoland area”. In a notice posted on the official Google Express BlogSpot yesterday (8 September), Brian Elliott, the General Manager of Google Express, announced: “Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin: we’re coming to a doorstep near you.”

Elliot added that Google Express would be working in the Midwest with the following stores: Ace Hardware, Barnes & Noble, Costco, Fry’s Electronics, Kohl’s, L’Occitane en Provence, Moosejaw, PetSmart, Road Runner Sports, Staples, Toys “R” Us & Babies “R” Us, Treasure Island Foods, Ulta Beauty, The Vitamin Shoppe, Walgreens and Wrigleyville Sports.

Google Express has already been offering a delivery service in Chicago – but it is now extending out into the rest of Illinois.

Meanwhile, Google Express will also be entering the grocery delivery market, by testing same-day deliveries in two US cities later this year.

San Francisco (where Google Express has already established a presence) will be one of the cities, and the other has yet to be named.

Sources report that Google Express will deliver groceries from its existing retail partners, including Costco, Whole Foods, Nob Hill Foods, Smart & Final and Target.

Google’s appetite for the grocery and food business will have been sharpened by the progress of Amazon, which has been rolling out its Amazon Fresh offering and over the past week has unveiled its new Amazon Restaurants meal delivery service and Farmers Market Direct initiative.
