Indonesia’s HappyFresh secures $12m funding

Jakarta-based grocery delivery app HappyFresh has raised another $12m in series A funding. According to local sources, the funding round was led by Vertex Ventures, the venture arm of Temasek Holdings, and Sinar Mas Digital Ventures (SMDV).

HappyFresh was set up in October last year and in March launched its next-hour online grocery delivery service in Indonesia and Malaysia. The company, which has since expanded to Thailand and Taiwan, has said that it plans to use the funding and “strong networks” of Vertex and SMDV “to further expand its footprint across Southeast Asia”.

Speaking to Tech in Asia today (14 September), co-founder Benjamin Koellmann said that “a Manila launch is slated for October”.
