Former bpost executive starts new e-commerce logistics company

Peter Somers, a former member of the executive committee of bpost, has started a new e-commerce logistics company. The new company, called SprintPack, has announced that it will be offering “e-commerce solutions such as the organisation of high quality and efficient delivery of parcels, 3PL activities such as warehousing, pick&pack and the set-up of web shops”.

In a statement sent to Post&Parcel today (29 September), SprintPack said that it intends to offer its customers a “fully integrated one-stop-shop e-commerce solution”, which it believes is “unique on the Belgian market”.

The core team supporting the start-up of SprintPack in Europe also consists of Marnix Bakker (Commercial), Jan Kooyman (Operations) and Steven Schutter (IT solutions).

The company will start up its Chinese operation in October. SprintPack China will be led by Maggie Li, the former CEO of bpost China. Mrs Li and P2P Mailing Ltd, an e-commerce parcel consolidator based in the UK, will also participate in this venture.

Peter Somers intends to become shareholder and board member of SD Group Logistics, a Belgian logistics player consisting of Soditra Logistic, Sobeltax Distribution, Sotradis, Europa Belgium, DBP and Sodisoft with consolidated revenues over €75m, employing 450 people and operating over 100,000 square metres of logistical space in Belgium. SD Group Logistics will also be a shareholder of SprintPack.

The SprintPack statement added: “Making use of the logistics backbone of the SD Group in Belgium, flexible delivery options by trustworthy last mile operators and a smart IT solution, SprintPack will offer B2C logistics solutions from Belgium for the European market, from Beijing for the Chinese market and in 2016 from the USA.”

Peter Somers was a member of the Executive Committee of bpost and headed bpost Parcels & International until last year. He was also responsible for the design and the start-up of the home delivery service of groceries ordered online, now called ‘Combo’.
