Amazon Prime FREE Same-Day delivery expands to Chicago and Orlando metro areas

Amazon has announced today (21 October) that its Prime FREE Same-Day Delivery coverage has expanded to two more major metro areas, Chicago and Orlando, as well as new locations in the New York City, Northern New Jersey and Philadelphia areas. The coverage in Chicago extends from downtown north to Evanston and Arlington Heights, west to Glen Ellyn and Downers Grove, and south to Oak Lawn.

In Orlando, the coverage extends north to Sanford and Deltona, south to Kissimmee, as well as eastern and western suburbs such as Clermont, Winter Garden and Winter Park.

New coverage also includes additional areas in Brooklyn and Queens in New York City, Northern New Jersey stretching from Newark to Paterson and beyond, and additional locations in the downtown area of Philadelphia.

Amazon Prime members can order up to 12:00 (noon) and receive free same-day deliveries “before bedtime” on orders over $35. The service is available seven days a week.

Prime FREE Same-Day Delivery is now available in 16 greater metro areas, accounting for more than 750 cities and towns, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Indianapolis, the Greater Los Angeles area, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, the San Francisco Bay area including Oakland and San Jose, Seattle-Tacoma, the Tampa Bay area, Washington, D.C., and newly added Orlando and Chicago areas.

Amazon Prime members in the US now have the option of using three free-shipping delivery services (where coverage permits):

  • Prime FREE Two-Day: available across the mainland US for more than 20 million items across all product categories
  • Prime FREE Same-Day: now available in 16 metro areas in the US, seven days a week, for a selection of more than a million items
  • Prime Now: Members in select cities can choose from tens of thousands of everyday essentials for free two-hour delivery from a dedicated mobile app (and they have the option of paying a delivery charge for a one-hour service).

Amazon Prime annual membership costs $99 a year in the US.

In related news, Amazon also announced yesterday that its new restaurants delivery on Prime Now service is now available to Prime Now members in Porland, Oregan.

Participating restaurants and food carts in Portland,include Pok Pok, Sizzle Pie, Waffle Window, Seres Restaurant, Luc Lac, East India Co Grill & Bar, Kim Jong Grillin’ and others.

Using the Prime Now mobile app, Portland customers can view participating restaurants, browse menus, place orders, and track the status of their delivery in real time.

The service started in select Portland zip codes yesterday (20 October) and will expand in the coming days.
