Tibbett & Britten Assists Remington Improve Its UK Logistics Performance

UK-based international logistics provider Tibbett & Britten Group plc has signed a multi-million pound five-year contract for UK warehousing and distribution with Remington Consumer Products Ltd.

The contract has just been signed, although Tibbett & Britten has been providing logistics support for Remington in the UK since May 2001.

Won at competitive tender, the new logistics contract covers the provision of warehousing, delivery and added-value services throughout Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Tibbett & Britten is also providing some export services, including documentation and freight forwarding.

The business has gone into Tibbett & Britten’s shared-user bonded distribution center at Mount Farm, Milton Keynes, Bucks, where it occupies one 7000-pallet capacity chamber of the four-chamber 31,400 sq meter (338,000 sq ft) site. Remington and Tibbett & Britten staff work side-by-side as one team at the specially equipped facility.

High levels of value-added activity are included under the contract to meet end-customers’ requirements, and such services include co-packing, customization and configuration, labelling and the preparation of multi-packs.

Remington’s products are made all over the world, and the wide range covers electric shavers and accessories, grooming products, hair care appliances, “wellness” products and other small electrical consumer goods. Some 1500 different items are handled at the Milton Keynes NDC, ranging from rotary shavers, hair dryers and haircut sets to foot spas – and including sundry marketing materials.

Tibbett & Britten receives, processes and delivers to around 500 locations, including retailer RDCs, high street outlets, mail order distributors, plus Remington’s own 10 service stores in the UK.

Ken Gregory, Tibbett & Britten’s Manufacturing Sector Development Director for the UK and Ireland, commented: “We have helped to streamline Remington’s UK supply chain, taking out significant cost and enabling the elimination of unnecessary stockholdings. We’ve also assisted them with the introduction of Manhattan Associates’ sophisticated PkMS warehouse management system, which has given better accuracy, and improved productivity and cost-effectiveness. The system implementation was faultless, and was delivered on time and within budget. Remington is currently measured by its top customers, high street names like Argos and Boots, as the number-one performing supplier in its category – frequently delivering KPIs (key performance indicators) at 100% – and we’re very proud to have contributed to their success.”
