Amicus launches (UK) Post Office pay campaign
MANAGERIAL union amicus launches its campaign today to secure a decent pay settlement for 15,000 Post Office managers.
The Mission for Managers document outlines a package of looked-for reforms and is intended to coincide with Royal Mail chairman Allan Leighton’s announcement of his new management structure for the Post Office.
The communications managers association (CMA) section of amicus is sending a copy of the document to all of its members as part of its campaign to deliver a decent pay deal for managers.
It demands a £25,000 minimum wage for Post Office managers who have responsibility for up to 40 staff.
The union also argues for a reasonable workload and recognition by the Post Office that current workloads are leading to high levels of stress.
Job security, personal and career development and equal treatment are other issues which the union wants addressed.
The document also argues that the Post Office needs to deal with racial, sexual and other forms of discrimination.
On health and safety, the document points out that managers need a healthy, balanced workplace enabling managers to concentrate on delivering mail services.
CMA national secretary Peter Skyte said: “The public deserve a first-class mail system. This is largely dependant on the skill and dedication of CMA members.”
