Lithuania Post testing new “personal parcel locker” service

Lithuania Post has launched a new pilot project offering customers the use of “personal parcel lockers”. The company has described its new personal parcel lockers as “a more modern and convenient version of traditional mail boxes”.

“They are bigger than the usual mail boxes, so they can contain more parcels and even the bigger ones,” explained Lithuania Post.

The company will be inviting 100 volunteers to try out the new service for free. The lockers will be installed near the volunteers’ homes.

The personal parcel lockers will be locked with an electronic key. Postal items delivered to personal parcel lockers will be given a special code, to enable tracking. When couriers deliver postal items to personal parcel lockers, receivers are immediately informed about it via SMS.

The pilot project will run for three months.

“With this trial period we wish to explore technical possibilities of delivering postal items to personal parcel lockers, clarify their functionality and customer needs. It is going to be a very important base for further development of this project, seeking to create an innovative, functional, qualitative and customer needs meeting service,” said Directress of Postal Network Division Inga Dundulienė.
