PostNL and unions agree in principle on CLA for mail deliverers

PostNL and the trade unions Bond van Post Personeel, FNV Publiek Belang and CNV Publieke Diensten have reached an agreement in principle regarding a new collective labour agreement (CLA) for mail deliverers. The agreement includes provisions for pay increases and expense compensation. The CLA is valid for two years. It will go into effect retroactively as of 1 October 2015, and will remain effective until 30 September 2017.

As previously reported, PostNL and the unions also reached a “definitive agreement” on 2 December over the new social plan for the company’s reorganisation.

Under the new CLA agreement, in 2016 and 2017, mail deliverer salaries in the first, second and third pay tiers will be increased by: 0.9% as of 1 January 2016, 0.5% as of 1 July 2016, 0.9% as of 1 January 2017 and 0.5% as of 1 July 2017.

The expense allowance will now be based on the number of contract hours a mail deliverer works. The allowance varies from €70 to €105 per year and is paid out per month. Additionally, mail deliverers will be compensated for the use of their own smartphone at work.

The trade unions will now submit this agreement in principle to their members who work in the mail delivery sector. The results of the member council meetings are expected at the end of January.

Albert Rodenboog, Director of PostNL Production, commented: “This agreement in principle underlines our appreciation for the mail deliverers, who are our ambassadors on the street. Furthermore, this agreement meets the challenges of our company. Our letter mail volumes continue to decline and we have to control our costs.”
