IPO for Poșta Română?

The Romanian government is mulling over the idea of selling a stake in Poșta Română (Romanian Post) through an initial public offering (IPO), according to local sources. Belgian’s bpost had been in talks with the authorities last year about the possibility of buying a majority stake in Poșta Română but they failed to reach an agreement.

Local media have now reported that Communications Minister Marius-Raul Bostan believes an IPO might be the best way forward.

“We will try to transform the Post into a public company. The state will continue to hold shares, but the company needs to enter into a process of transparency,” Bostan was quoted as saying.

As previously reported, Poșta Română is currently in the process of updating the IT and telecoms equipment in its branch post offices.
