NIPOST Installs Security Screening in Mail Processing Centre

To facilitate easy detection of bombs and metals including prohibited items, the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has installed a multi-purpose screening machine at the International Mail Processing Centre (IMPC-Air), Ikeja, Lagos.

According to the Postmaster General of the Federation (PMG), Alhaji Abubakar Musa Argungu, the machine, which cost N18m, has the capacity to record the accurate number of mails processed, ensure careful handling of mail items and accelerate inquiry into loss of postal items.

Addressing journalists yesterday at the World Post Day celebrations, Argungu, explained that the machine has the ability to detect even hard drugs, and would guarantee the security of mails coming and going out of the country.

As part of the celebrations, the PMG was conferred with “a millennium award for service excellence,” by NIPOST staff and postmasters all over the federation. Other management staffs were also honoured for their contributions towards the advancement of the organisation.

The PMG was commended for wooing back some of the organisation’s major clients who left at the time NIPOST’s services was at its lowest. Also, he was applauded for ensuring prompt payment of salaries and for the innovation he brought into NIPOST.

“We chose to do this because there has been other PMG’s, but you are one with a difference,” the staff told the awardee.

In his response, Argungu remarked that the gesture indicated there was harmony in the establishment adding that it is a move other organisations should emulate.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has been elected into the Plenipotentiary Council of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), which took place in Marrakech, Morocco. Also a Nigerian telecommunication expert, Engr. Shola Taylor has become a member of the Radio Regulatory Board of the Union.
