Yamato Transport expects cost reduction to boost profit

Major parcel delivery company Yamato Transport Co. said Tuesday it expects its group net profit in the year to next March will rise 12.0 pct from the previous year to 30.8 billion yen, thanks to cost cutting.

Sales are projected to rise 3.2 pct to 962 billion yen, as the company’s efforts to broaden its customer base and to gain orders online are beginning to bear fruit.

Sales at its domestic transport division are likely to grow 3.0 pct to 859.5 billion yen, of which 705 billion yen will be generated from the parcel delivery business.

Yamato Transport predicts a 6.2 pct sales growth at its international transport division.

For the April-September first half, the company reported a net profit of 13,916 million yen, up 16.7 pct from the year before, on sales of 461,188 million yen, up 3.7 pct. Recurring profit grew 7.9 pct to 25,159 million yen.

Sales at the domestic transport division in the six months grew 2.8 pct to 409.8 billion yen, while those at the international transport division jumped 20.0 pct to 33.5 billion yen. [EARNINGS]
