Michael Kors set to provide same day delivery in select US cities

Michael Kors CEO John Idol has revealed that the luxury brand retailer will soon be providing a same day delivery service in some US cities. Idol, who was speaking during an earnings conference call at the start of this month, added that it would be offering the service “unfortunately probably for free”.

The Michael Kors CEO said that free delivery is “going to be the new norm and so we have to deal with that behaviourally”.

In a wide ranging discussion (available through a Seekingalpha.com transcript), Idol said that his company believed that “one of the most important ways that we’re going to compete globally is with delivery”.

Idol also complimented UK-based department stores – particularly Harrods, Selfridges, House of Fraser and John Lewis – for their online strategies.

“They’re the most sophisticated at click and collect. They’re the most sophisticated at same day delivery service,” said Idol. “They do it better than any department store in the world, in the UK.”
