KION Group to buy Dematic

The KION Group is to buy Dematic in a deal which values the logistics automation technology provider at around $3.25bn. The deal is expected to be closed in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2016.

Dematic’s product and systems portfolio includes automated guided vehicles (AGVs), palletizers, storage and picking equipment, sorters and conveyors. Amongst its many offerings, Dematic provides parcel processing and sorting solutions for parcel logistics providers,

Over the past year, the KION Group has already ramped up its automated systems capabilities by acquiring Egemin Automation and Retrotech.

When the transaction closes, Dematic will be integrated into the KION Group forming an additional fifth operating unit, which will also comprise the businesses of Egemin Automation and Retrotech.
