Poste Italiane losses but delivery quality targets exceeded

Italian postal services group Poste Italiane closed the first half of 2002 with losses of Euro 62m compared with losses of Euro 44m in the same period last year. The posts overall revenue increased by 1.6% and operating costs amounted to Euro 3.3billion. Its gross operting margin rose from Euro 277m to Euro 344m, an increase of 24.4%. with regard to delivery quality, Italys communications minister, Maurizo Gasparri, said the post had exceeded predicted targets for the half year. For normal mail the quality criteria had requested 90% of mail was delivered within 3 days, 97% within 4 days and 99% within 5 days. The post delivered 93% in 3 days, 97.8% within 4 days and 99.2% within 5 days.
For Priority mail, the criteria was that 80% was delivered within a day of posting. The ost actually achieved an 86.6% delivery rate for 24 hour delivery and a 99.5% rate for 3 day delivery.
