Google India launches into the food delivery business

Google India has ventured into the online food ordering world, through new partnerships with restaurant reservation and on-demand delivery specialists. According to a notice posted yesterday (8 August) on Google India’s official blog, when Indian Google users search for a nearby restaurant on their phone, they will now see an option to “Place an order” in the search results.

“Just tap that and choose your favourite delivery service like Zomato or Swiggy and you’ll be taken to their website to complete the order,” said Google.

Google is also offering a restaurant table reservation service.

The company plans to add more restaurants and delivery partners as the service progresses.

“Initially, you’ll be able to order food via Zomato and Swiggy, and make your restaurant reservations with Dineout and Bytplus using Google Search and the Google app on your Android or iOS phone or tablet,” said Google. “These features are just rolling out and we’ll be adding more partners and evolving the look and feel over time.”
