Australia Post clarifies policy on return of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 products

Australia Post is the latest postal operator to issue a statement clarifying its policy on the return of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 products. In a statement issued today (21 October), Australia Post said: “In accordance with ACCC safety advice, and in consultation with the major telecommunications providers, Australia Post has been accepting returns of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and Note 7 Edge via road transport in clearly marked packages. Australia Post is not carrying the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 by air.

“We have been working with the manufacturer who has advised the device is safe to transport as long as it is switched off. This advice has been consistently communicated to consumers by all parties involved.

“We continue to review the situation and consult with our employees and their representatives. In the meantime we have advised product distributors to instruct their customers to return the devices directly to them.”

As previously reported, the US Postal Service (USPS) also issued a statement last week setting out its policy on handling returned Galaxy Note 7 products.

The problems that Samsung has experienced with the Galaxy Note 7 have generated huge media interest, and a slew of online jokes. Earlier this week, for example, Stephen Colbert, the presenter of “The Late Show”, made a spoof video showing how to return the Galaxy Note 7 – in which the comedian handled the phone with a set of barbecue tongs and wrapped the parcel in foil.
