Zipline raises $25m funding

Drone delivery specialist Zipline has raised $25 million in series B funding from tech investment and venture capital firms, Visionnaire Ventures, Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz. As previously reported, Zipline has partnered with UPS, Gavi and the Vaccine Alliance to develop a service in Rwanda which uses drones to delivery blood and medical supplies to transfusion centres in the western half of the country.

Rwanda plans to expand Zipline’s drone delivery service to the Eastern half of the country in early 2017.

The partners in the drone project say they hope to use the knowledge gained in Rwanda and export it around the world.
