Rethink Robotics announces new software platform for cobots
Rethink Robotics has launched Intera 5 – the latest version of the software platform for the Sawyer collaborative robot. In a notice posted on its blog yesterday (8 February), Rethink Robotics said: “We’ve focused our efforts on exposing some of the more advanced features for Sawyer, including force behaviours and vision, in an easy to use interface.
“As before, you can train the robot using the on-robot interface. We have maintained the train by demonstration functionality that has allowed our customers to deploy Rethink robots without making drastic changes to the work cell. With the introduction of Intera 5, you can also connect to a laptop, and run the browser based Intera Studio to get into the more complex aspects of training, deploying and redeploying your robots.
“With Intera 5, we’ve added some key new functionality to our two most important features – Embedded Vision and Force.”
The changes basically mean that robot will be better equipped to identify objects, and also pick and handle them carefully.

Collaborative robots (aka “cobots”) are fast becoming an important part of the post and parcel industry’s plans for the future . Indeed, as previously reported by Post&Parcel, Rethink Robotics’ Sawyer and Baxter robots have already been put through their paces in trial projects at DHL’s warehouses.
