‘Cainiao Green Alliance Foundation’ announced

Cainiao Network, the logistics affiliate of Alibaba Group, has announced the creation of the ‘Cainiao Green Alliance Foundation’, which it says is China’s first charity foundation dedicated to promoting green logistics.

The Foundation has been jointly launched by Cainiao Network, Alibaba Foundation and China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF), as well as six Chinese logistics companies, including YTO Express, ZTO Express, STO Express, Yunda Express, Best Logistics and TK Express.

In a statement sent to Post&Parcel today (20 March), Cainiao said the Foundation’s initial focus areas will include innovation regarding environmentally friendly packaging, promoting the adoption of clean energy by delivery vehicles and applying big data in logistics to optimize resources.

The foundation will invest RMB300 million into research to provide the input for promoting green logistics, consumption and supply chain.

Judy Tong, Cainiao Network Chairwomen and Alibaba Group Chief People Officer, said: “Cainiao Network, as the largest big-data logistics platform, and Alibaba Group, holding the largest e-commerce ecosystem in China, have a responsibility to take the lead in promoting environmental protection and green logistics. This effort can only be achieved by joining hands with other partners in the industry as well as contribution from the entire ecosystem that includes the government, logistics companies, merchants and customers.”
