Central London traffic advice

Central London traffic advice

Due to an incident in Wesminster yesterday (22 March), there are road closures in place in some parts of central London. Some cycle and bus routes are also affected and there may be changes to the bus, tube and rail services. The incident in question took place at 2:4o pm yesterday, when a man drove a car over Westminster Bridge, near the Houses of Parliament, killing at least two pedestrians and injuring more.

After crashing the car into railings outside the House of Parliament, the man ran up to the Parliament buildings where he stabbed and killed an unarmed police officer, PC Keith Palmer.

The attacker was then shot dead by armed police officers. The Metropolitan Police are working on the assumption that the attacker “acted alone yesterday” and was “inspired by international terrorism”.

This morning, the Met Police issued a statement saying that investigators have now made a total of eight arrests as part of the ongoing Counter Terrorism operation.

The police are asking people to avoid the following areas: Parliament Square; Whitehall; Westminster Bridge; Lambeth Bridge; Victoria Street up to the junction with Broadway and the Victoria Embankment up to Embankment tube. This is to allow the emergency services to deal with the ongoing incident.

Updates on the traffic situation in London are available on the Twitter feeds of the Met Police and Transport for London (TfL). Live updates are also available on the TfL website.
