Wal-Mart’s Jet.com opens New York bricks-and-mortar grocery store
Wal-Mart’s Jet.com has opened a pop-up store in New York to help promote its grocery delivery service. There is an interesting loop to this online-offline retail connection. Supermarket giant Wal-Mart bought Jet.com last year for $3.3bn to boost its online presence, and now Jet.com has opened a temporary bricks-and-mortar store: one could almost call it “Back to Physical”.
Jet.com will sell its grocery items at the New York location for six weeks. There also will be a number of in-store events with chef Mario Batali and makeup maestro Bobbi Brown.
The project is being run in association with retail concept store company Story and will be located at Story’s premises in Manhattan’s 10th Ave. retail corridor. The project’s name is “Fresh STORY” – which has a familiar ring to it.
