US Senate Committee to discuss autonomous vehicle bill

The US Senate’s Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee is scheduled to discuss a new bill that focuses on autonomous vehicles in a hearing today (4 October). Under the terms of the bill entitled, “American Vision for Safer Transportation through Advancement of Revolutionary Technologies (AV START) Act”, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) would maintain authority over design and construction of autonomous vehicles (AVs) and a Highly Automated Vehicle Technical Safety Committee would be established to study AV systems.

Legislation on autonomous vehicles has also passed through the US House of Representatives.
