New Czech expansion for Tibbett & Britten
Tibbett & Britten, the UK based logistics company, has announced a new contract with one of Europe’s largest retailers, Tesco. The deal will see it establish a chilled distribution operation in the Czech Republic, using an existing temperature controlled facility. The new operation will involve the distribution of mainly dairy products such as milk and yoghurt which had formerly been delivered direct to stores by suppliers.
The company is expected to deliver 70,000 pallets to 19 Tesco stores throughout the Czech Republic, involving initially 700 skus. Although T&B will operate the distribution facility, transport will be out-sourced to local providers.
Tesco is the fifth largest retailer in the Czech Republic, having entered the market in 1996 with the purchase of a number of department stores from US retailer K-Mart. It claims to be the largest hypermarket chain across the region. Tibbett & Britten has been present in the Czech Republic since 1998 and it extended its operations in 2000 through the acquisition of local logistics company Logis International. In addition to the Czech Republic, T&B also manages operations for the UK retailer in Hungary and is keen to further expand its relationship with the client into new international markets. It has already used this strategy to grow globally with other clients, including its erstwhile parent company Unilever.
