GATS London Mail Hub moves to Heathrow
As part of the expansion programme and in order to offer its postal customers even better services and faster transfer times GATS (Global Alliance of Transportation Systems) is pleased to announce that, with effect from Monday, 8 September 2003, its London Hub operations will be moving into a new location at Building 578, Sandringham Road, World Cargo Centre, London Heathrow Airport. The current Customs and DTR approvals will be transferred to the new facility.
The move airside is an important enhancement of GATS’ current operations. GATS
is transferring its mailbag conveyor and sorting equipment, x-ray screening and IT bag scanning system to the new airside facility.
Operational benefits include improved transfer times for mailbags arriving on international flights. Present transfer and turnaround times of between 5-6 hours, through the current ‘off airport’ system, will be cut by half, which will enable GATS, through streamlining efficiencies, to double the level of international priority mail presently handled each day.
There will also be benefits to the UK economy with the creation of additional jobs, and the bringing in of additional revenue for London’s Heathrow Airport and airline carriers which GATS uses for international mail conveyance.
The GATS network already provides daily containerised and non- containerised airmail services to postal gateways throughout Europe, the Americas, the Middle
East, Africa, Asia and the Pacific Rim. Most recently GATS signed a Business Partner Agreement with Jamaica Post Corporation to open a first network hub in the Caribbean.
To further improve its Business Partner Network GATS is implementing a programme
of demanding Service Level Agreements with its airline partners, who are a critical link in the mail transfer chain. These agreements and the move airside will place GATS in the unique position of being the leading independent mail transportation
service provider at London Heathrow Airport.
GATS Corporate office will remain at its current premises at Unit 1, Riverside Cargo Park, Mathisen Way, Colnbrook.
