Highways England publishes Strategic Road Network Initial Report

The cars of the future will be connected.

In its Strategic Road Network Initial Report, published today (13 December 2017), Highways England has set out how it believes technology will play an increasingly major role in keeping people moving, and the country connected.

The report, will be used to inform the government’s next road investment strategy which begins in 2020, conjures up a vision of how an intelligent network coupled with connected vehicles would improve how efficiently roads are maintained.

The Department for Transport has also launched its consultation into the initial report today. The consultation will run until 7 February. The department will use the results of the consultation to help develop the next Road Investment Strategy which the government is expected to publish in 2019.
