More than 5bn items shipped with Amazon Prime in 2017

Amazon has announced that more than 5bn items were shipped through its Prime service in 2017.

This included free same-day, one-day, and two-day shipping.

In a statement issued on Tuesday (2 January), Greg Greeley, Vice President, Amazon Prime, also claimed that more new paid members joined Prime worldwide in 2017 than any previous year. The Prime service is now available in 16 countries.

The Amazon statement added: ” In 2017, the Amazon fulfillment and shipping network increased by more than 30% in square footage worldwide. In the U.S. alone, more than 6,000 trailers and 32 Amazon Air planes were in place to serve Prime members during the year.”

In related news, there have been unconfirmed reports in the media that Amazon and Home Depot may be both looking into the possibility of mounting take-over bids for XPO Logistics.
