Collaborative and clean city logistics

DHL, DPD, GLS, Hermes and UPS are reportedly working together to trial a parcel delivery model in Berlin which will use cargo bikes and shared micro depots.

According to a report in German media, the “Komodo” project will become operational in June.

The courier companies will work with the local authorities, the Berlin Port and Warehouse Company (Behala) as the project coordinator LogisticNetwork Consultants (LNC). The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety within the framework of the National Climate Initiative.

“Micro-depots create a new atmosphere in our neighbourhoods,” Regine Günther, Berlin’s Senator for the Environment, Transport and Climate Protection was quoted as saying. Günther added that cargo bikes are “clean, safe, quiet and climate-friendly”, making them “ideal” for last mile deliveries in cities.
