Eesti Post’s universal postal service licence renewed

Estonia’s Competition Authority has renewed Eesti Post’s licence to provide the country’s universal postal service for another five years.

The new licence period comes into effect on 9 October.

Local sources quoted Margus Kasepalu, head of the Department of Energy and Postal Communications at the Competition Authority, as saying that Eesti Post (part of the Omniva brand) was the only company to submit an offer.

In a notice posted on its website yesterday (1 August), Omnniva said: ‘The universal postal service consists of domestic and international postal services: the clearance of items of correspondence in ordinary, registered and insured items up to two kilograms and the delivery of registered parcels up to 20 kilograms in registered and insured items. The geographical area of universal postal service provision is the whole of Estonia and the license is issued for five years (09 October 2019 to 8 October 2024).’

As previously reported by Post&Parcel, Omniva announced last week it will now be filling and emptying its most popular parcel machines ‘multiple times a day’ to keep up with the demand for e-commerce driven parcel demand.
