An Post commits to carbon reduction

An Post is the first Irish logistics company to join EV100, a global initiative made up of leading international businesses dedicated to accelerating the move to electric vehicles worldwide.

An Post deployed Ireland’s first ever 7.5 tonne Electric Trucks to its electric fleet last year, benefitting the health and air quality of 512,000 people living and working in Dublin city.  Deliveries in the cities of Limerick, Cork, Galway, Waterford and Kilkenny are now also emissions free, with more urban areas and suburbs to follow this year.

With Electric Vehicles already making up 30% of An Post’s 3000+ fleet, the Company’s focus is now firmly on alternatives for its HGV fleet which accounts for 50% of fleet-related carbon emissions.

Nicola Woods, Chief Transformation Officer at An Post, explains that as national leaders in the adaptation of Electric Vehicles in Ireland, participation in the dynamic, global EV100 Initiative will help set strategy and stretching targets for An Post:

“Our participation will help pioneer and grow both our electric fleet and electric vehicle charging sites.   Through our initiatives, we enable our commercial and personal customers to take positive, measureable action on time-critical issue of carbon reduction.  We value the power of peer learning and these actionable global insights and the EV100 experts will help us to formulate strategy, particularly around heavy goods vehicles.

“Our membership of EV100 supports An Post’s purpose in acting for the common good, now and for generations to come”, she concluded.

Sandra Roling, Head of EV100, says: “We are very glad to have An Post joining EV100. As well as a commitment to being fully electric by 2030, An Post has publicly committed that all of their city fleets will have zero emission vehicles by 2021. This leadership is exactly what we want to see from EV100 members, and a great demonstration of the potential of going electric in the postal sector.”
