Vaiie: Our aim is to set a new standard in trusted, real-time digital identity verification

Vaiie, a part of the Jersey Post Group and specialist provider of digital regulatory technology, is  supporting the Government of Jersey in the development and launch of a new digital ID verification tool enabling citizens to access government services online.

The launch is part of the Government of Jersey’s wider aim to modernise its services and increase accessibility through digital channels.

The new digital ID verification tool is a web-based solution developed in-house by Vaiie in Jersey, enabling Islanders to create a secure digital ID using their desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone. Islanders just need an internet-enabled device with a camera and microphone and will need their passport, an email address and mobile phone to complete the process to set up a profile.

Users follow a simple four-step registration process on the Government of Jersey website. They provide personal details, go through a system check, take a photo of their passport, and undertake a liveness check. Customers will record themselves saying three two-digit numbers to verify their ID. Once a unique ID is created, Islanders can file their tax return online at one.gov.je and access government services that require a person’s identity to be verified (e.g., requesting a new registration card or change of address).

The development and launch directly responds to challenges that Islanders have faced previously when filing their tax returns online, where smartphone accessibility, heightened uneasiness around data security, and lack of customer support were highlighted as concerns.

Lee Bosio, Managing Director of Vaiie, commented: “Vaiie is proud to support the Government of Jersey as their trusted partner on the roll-out of the digital ID verification tool. Our aim is to set a new standard in trusted, real-time digital identity verification that is quick and easy to use. We are confident it will meet the needs and expectations of Islanders accessing government services digitally and enable more Islanders to access online services.

“The benefits of having a centralised, robust and accessible system for digital identity will help to reduce identity fraud and errors and the end customer experience will be enhanced through ease and speed of completing an online identity without having to re-enter information – which we understand can be time-consuming and frustrating.”

Tim Brown, CEO of Jersey Post Group, which Vaiie is a part of, added: “Jersey Post has an important role to play in being the first port of call for Islanders who require support in accessing or using this solution. We are pleased to be able to provide this support to Islanders and the Government of Jersey through a dedicated team based at our centrally located flagship post office.”

John Quinn, Chief Operating Officer from the Government of Jersey, commented: “We are excited at the prospect of launching the new digital ID solution, which will ease the transition for many Islander’s wanting to access our government services online. Increasing the accessibility of our services to more Islanders and offering the highest standards of customer experience in terms of speed and ease of use is a key driver in our digital and IT transformation project, and Vaiie has been instrumental in making this happen.”

Vaiie is a specialist provider of digital regulatory technology in the areas of client pre-screening, onboarding, and monitoring.
