GLS: E-commerce businesses are looking for simplicity
GLS is expanding its fulfilment capabilities with a new purpose-built centre in Kolding, Denmark. The new facility will mark GLS Denmark’s entry into fulfilment services and support the Group’s development of connected logistics solutions that combine parcel delivery with storage and order processing.
Since 2023, GLS has expanded its fulfilment footprint across Europe and North America, operating centres in Germany, Hungary, Spain, Slovenia and Canada. Fulfilment is a growing part of the Group’s activities, extending the parcel network so that GLS can work more closely with customers on inventory, warehousing and order processing. Kolding adds Denmark to that list.
The facility will initially cover 5,000 square metres, scalable to 15,000 square metres. Designed primarily for small and medium-sized e-commerce businesses, it will enable GLS Denmark to provide warehousing, picking and packing alongside parcel delivery through one integrated setup.
“As e-commerce continues to evolve, retailers increasingly need integrated solutions that connect inventory, order fulfilment and delivery. Denmark is an important milestone in our ambition to build a stronger network across Europe, combining fulfilment expertise with the strength of the GLS parcel network. Over time, this will enable us to offer customers a more connected and scalable logistics ecosystem,” said Konstantinos Kafritsas, Global Head of Expansion Businesses at GLS Group.
Located at Trianglen in Kolding, around two kilometres from GLS Denmark’s hub, the new centre will connect directly with the national parcel network. The purpose-built facility will include a semi-automated setup with an AutoStore automated storage system and an automated sorting belt. The design is intended to provide flexibility as volumes grow and reduce manual handling.
“E-commerce businesses are looking for simplicity, scale and reliability. Kolding strengthens our ability to support customers with integrated fulfilment and delivery solutions, helping them position inventory closer to consumers while reducing operational complexity. This is an important step in expanding our logistics capabilities and supporting future growth,” said Steen Kristensen, Managing Director at GLS Denmark.
The centre is expected to be ready for use ahead of the 2027 peak season, creating around 30 new jobs in Kolding.
