Botswana Post essential in information exchange

Services provided by BotswanaPost remain an essential tool in exchange of information in the society.
Speaking during a launch of Kitsong Centre in Letlhakane Orapa Letlhakane Mines official Ms Tiny Diswai–Moremi said BotswanaPost was committed to the principles of universal service obligations which were based on the premise that communication was a fundamental human right.

Despite the rapid global development of electronic communication services, such as internet, emails and SMS on mobile phones, she said the postal services still remained the most accessible means of communication for most parts of Botswana.

Ms Diswai-Moremi said Kitsong Centre was in line with the long-term vision of Batswana being an educated and informed nation as well as a prosperous, productive and innovative nation by 2016.

Kitsong Centre, she said was in conformance with the Universal Postal Union (UPU) strategic direction as stipulated in the Nairobi Postal strategy 2009-2012 which sought to modernise and diversify postal services.

She said Kitsong Centre product mix go beyond the provision of traditional postal services and products to include other information processing equipment which enhances Botswana Post’s information dissemination portfolio to customers.
She said there were 30 centres of this nature operated by BotswanaPost across the country, adding that plans were at an advanced stage to roll out more Kitsong Centres in the current financial year. She said this would improve customer service delivery options by turning ordinary postal outlets into contemporary information and service centres.

Ms Diswai-Moremi said she had been assured that Botswana Post would continue to expand its services and products thus cutting on customers’ traveling expenses and time. One of the recent notable developments, she said was the renewal of motor vehicle licensing in nine post offices including Letlhakeng, Hukuntsi, Orapa, Masunga and Maun Post offices.
