Correos processed nearly 50% more international parcels over Christmas

The number of parcels sent to Spain has also increased by 10%, mostly from EU countries.

During the Christmas campaign, CORREOS manages almost 50% more international parcels than the monthly average.

The arrival or importing of parcels for distribution in Spain is estimated to increase by around 10% compared to December 2007. These parcels are mostly sent from European Union countries, particularly France and Germany, where the gift tradition is deeply rooted and from where there are large colonies of residents.

Likewise, with regard to exports, the volume of post is expected to remain the same or to increase slightly in relation to Christmas 2007. Most of the postal consignments are sent by immigrants living in Spain to their homelands in Latin America.

By product type, all parcel lines have grown, both the more economical services and the certified services (with a 10% and 6% year-on-year increase in November, respectively). With regard to urgent deliveries, the figure increases the closer it gets to the Christmas period.

With regard to deliveries received in Asian countries belonging to the “Kahala Group” –made up of CORREOS and other international postal operators–, the balance for November shows growth of around 27% with respect to the same month last year.
