Russia plans to open a post office on the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard in the near future.

Russia plans to open a post office on the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard in the near future.

In course of the next two months, Russia and Norway will sign an agreement on opening of a branch of Russian Post on Svalbard. The decision about this was made by a Russian-Norwegian working group on information technologies and innovation on a meeting in Oslo.

Svalbard is under Norwegian jurisdiction, but has a particular status where Russia has the right to conduct business on the archipelago.
