DHL thinks fresh in Melbourne

DHL has opened its $35m new airfreight facility at Melbourne Airport to increase the amount of fresh foods and perishable products from the region to overseas destinations, reports Supply Chain Review. The article continues:

Complete with the latest in technology, security and environmental credentials, DHL’s chief executive of Global Forwarding in South Asia Pacific Amadou Diallo says the new facility is a vital part of the company’s growth in the region.

“We have experienced double digit growth in Australia over the past few years and the new warehouse is a substantial investment in Victoria and Tasmania’s future,” Diallo says.

“Infrastructure in the South Pacific, such as this new hub, also helps support DHL’s overall growth strategy for Asia.”

The facility covers a distance of 50,000 square metres and includes two “state of the art” cool rooms designed to handle exports such as seafood, meats and fruit from across the nations southern states.

The construction of the warehouse has also taken into account the growing industry of pharmaceutical, vaccine and life science exports.
