Iceland tries unattended access system
Iceland has been running trials with the Delivery Point unattended home delivery system from Home Delivery Access. According to home shopping operations manager Carl Allan: “We are always exploring the use of new technologies in offering an enhanced service to home shopping customers.”
The Delivery Point system users a “smart lock” about the size of an entryphone to provide access to a selected part of the consumer’s property. When the consumer orders product online from a participating retailer, two codes are transmitted wirelessly to the lock from the HDA control centre. The delivery driver is issued with one code, and enters this on the lock’s keypad to gain access to the premises. He or she can then read the other code back from the lock, making a note of it as a kind of digital signature to prove delivery.
HDA offers a range of solutions from the access lock itself to a free-standing box system and a sophisticated “through-the-wall” refrigerated system for building into the premises.
