SWEDISH, FRENCH MAIL SERVICES SIGN COOPERATION AGREEMENT

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) _ The state mail carriers of Sweden and France, Posten AB and La Poste, agreed Thursday to cooperate on package deliveries and other shipments.

“Our objective is to quickly integrate the new operations and increase volume,” said Lennart Grabe,” president and group CEO of Posten.

La Poste’s 85 percent-owned Direct Parcel Distribution _ one of Europe’s largest package service networks _ may enter into franchise agreements with Posten in the Nordic and Baltic countries, Posten stated in a news release.

Posten already has agreed with Danish transport company DSV Parcel Holding A/S to buy its package operations in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland for around one billion kronor (dlrs 94 million). The acquisition includes all of DSV, DPD Finland OY and 50 percent of Norway’s Tollpost Globe AS.

The companies have a combined turnover of 1.1 billion kronor (dlrs 104 million) and will increase Posten’s package operations volume by 25 percent. The companies have more than 1,000 employees, including about 800 in Norway.

Posten is one of the largest businesses in Sweden, with about 50,000 employees and annual revenue of about 24.5 billion kronor (dlrs 2.3 billion).

SWEDEN’S POSTAL SERVICE COMPANY BUILDS NORDIC AND BALTIC PARCEL DISTRIBUTION NETWORK

Oct 11, 2001 (NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT via COMTEX) — The Swedish postal services company Posten AB is strengthening its parcel distribution services through co-operation agreements and acquisitions.

Posten has signed a letter of intent with the French postal services company La Poste regarding franchising the parcel distribution network DPD (Direct Parcel Distribution) in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Posten has also entered into an agreement to acquire the Danish logistics group DSV’s parcel distribution operations in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The agreement means that Posten will take over DSV Parcel Holding A/S in Denmark, DPD Finland OY, 50% of the Norwegian company Tollpost Globe AS and the parcel activities of the Swedish company Fraktarna AB.

The companies are to be acquired for a consideration amounting to SEK1bn. Posten is also to take over SEK300m in debt.

STOCKHOLM (AFX) – Post office Posten AB said it agreed with DSV A/S of Denmark to buy DSV Parcel Holding A/S of Denmark, DPD Finland Oy, 50 pct of Norway’s Tollpost Globe AS and Fraktarna AB of Sweden for about 1 bln skr, and 300 mln skr in debt.

It also signed a declaration of intent with its French counterpart La Poste for a parcel delivery alliance in the Nordic and Baltic region.

Under the declaration of intent, La Poste’s 85 pct unit Direct Parcel Distribution (DPD) will have franchise rights in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Lithaunia and Latvia.

Posten is also in talks to gain access to La Poste unit Chronopost’s European and intercontinental express network, in an alliance with FedEx Corp
