Labour recognition for TNT Express Saudi Arabia

TNT Express Saudi Arabia has been awarded the SA8000:2008 certificate, in response to its standard of working conditions and labour relations. The award was issued by IQ Net (Vincotte) International, after auditors visited TNT Express offices and warehouses at Jeddah and Dhahran to interview the employees, review and assess the standards for managing the workplace over a three-year period.

During the closing meeting, the auditors were “very appreciative of the great effort put in by TNT Express Saudi Arabia for implementing and maintaining the standard of the SA8000 management system”, a TNT spokesperson said.

Martyn Wright, managing director for TNT Express Saudi Arabia said: “This is a milestone achievement since TNT Express Saudi Arabia is the first company in the Kingdom to receive this certificate. It is a testament to the efforts put in by the management and the employees to making a professional and successful workplace.”

SA8000 (Social Accountability 8000) is based on the principles of international standards regarding working conditions that are contained in treaties of the International Labor Organisation, the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

SA8000 is focused on the improvement of labour conditions throughout the world. This shows the direction to organisations that improve and demonstrate their corporate social responsibility (CSR) with regards to fundamental human rights within working conditions.

Bryan Moulds, managing director for TNT Express Middle East, added: “Achieving SA8000 for TNT Express Saudi Arabia is a source of great pride for us as a company and our employees. It reflects our commitment to continuous improvement.

“The changes enabled by the SA8000 certification process have helped to create a more positive work environment, which translates into higher productivity, lower operating costs and, ultimately, the best Express service in the business.”
