FedEx Express expands Asia-Pacific shipping options

FedEx Express has been expanding its activities in the Asia-Pacific region, launching a new extra large packet service in markets including Australia, China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Thailand. The new FedEx XL Pak is 90% larger then the Large Pak, and can be used for documents and other items including clothing samples and e-commerce products.

FedEx said the larger packet allowed for larger shipments to benefit from FedEx International Priority Pak rates.

The service, which includes free packaging, is available in 15 major markets, also including Guam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, New Zealand, the Phillippines, Taiwan and Vietnam.

“FedEx always aims to provide our customers with flexible shipping options to accommodate their diverse requirements,” said David L. Cunningham Jr., Asia Pacific president for FedEx Express. ”With this Extra Large Pak, customers now have a new option at their disposal when they plan their packaging and shipping.”

Cargo expansion

Meanwhile, FedEx Express has also increased its air cargo capacity between South Korea and Europe with a new A300-600 aircraft flying from Incheon airport into Europe, via the company’s Asia-Pacific hub in Guangzhou, China.

Flying 10 times a week, the freighter has 50 tonnes capacity, replacing an A310-300F that had 37 tonnes’ payload.

FedEx said the new aircraft came in response to escalating demand following July’s free trade agreement between South Korea and the European Union.

Last year, EUR 28bn worth of goods were exported from Europe to South Korea, while EUR 38.7m worth of South Korean goods where shipped into Europe.

Cunningham Jr said: “Despite the challenging economic environment in Europe, Asia remains a strong trading partner with the EU. With this latest service enhancement, FedEx is equipping its customers with enhanced capacity and flexibility.”
