Philpost deal to give 188 post offices internet access

The Philippine Postal Corporation (Philpost) has signed a deal to work with the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) to connect all the country’s post offices to the Internet. The deal initiated by the country’s new postmaster general Josefina M Dela Cruz will see the largest telecommunications company in the Philippines providing Philpost with computers and internet access to link up 188 post offices across the nation.

Philpost said a whole new IT network was being set up that would also be used by Philpost’s logistics business, and would also be used to improve money remittance and other services the company offers.

The company said that as well as upgrading its facilities with the IT network and by bringing in new technology into its operations, Philpost is also looking to develop new business.

“This is just an initial tie-up with PLDT,” said Dela Cruz. “We see the role of IT in our business as vital. We hope that through the help of PLDT Chairman Manny Pangilinan, we will be able to connect all of our post offices in the country to better serve our customers.

“This will ensure that our patrons will receive faster, more reliable and trustworthy service from Philpost,” added the postmaster general.
