Korean Postal Service rates to rise 9.5 pct from January 15

SEOUL, Dec 28 Asia Pulse – Korea Post today said it will raise postal service charges by 9.5 per cent from January 15 next year. The postal service said current low postal service rates, the depreciation of the won versus the U.S. dollar and boosts in international postal service charges necessitated the increase. It will take 190 won (US 14.6 cents) to mail a domestic letter according to new postal service rates, with the charge for registered mail to be increased to 1,100 won from 1,000 won per letter. The international postal service charge will also be increased 10.4 per cent. However, the service charge for express mail weighing up to 25 grams will be reduced to 280 won from 340 won per letter, while those weighing up to 50 grams will be cut to 310 won, down 70 won or 17 per cent.
