Vietnam Post to Offer Payroll Service

Vietnam’s postal service plans to offer a service allowing companies to pay staff salaries through post offices, an official said Tuesday. This is the first time Vietnam has introduced personal accounts in post offices, the official said. The Postal Saving Services Co., a subsidiary of Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Corp., will launch the service in Hanoi on Jan. 21 and in the southern commercial center of Ho Chi Minh City on April 2, the company official said. Initially, staff employed by companies which sign contracts for the service will be able to withdraw their money at any post office in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, she said. The service will be expanded to all 61cities and provinces in the country by the end of this year and staff will then be able to withdraw money from any post office in the country, she said. Vietnam is still a cash-dependent society in which few people make transactions through banks.
