FedEx Express to add flight from Memphis to Edmonton

FedEx Express is upgrading its services between the United States and Canada in the New Year, with a new flight between its Memphis base and Edmonton, Alberta. The company said businesses in Northern Alberta are set to benefit from greater connectivity with markets around the world by increasing inbound and outbound air cargo capacity through Edmonton International Airport (EIA).

The move is a “demonstration of its commitment to Alberta’s flourishing economy”, said the firm which is deploying a wide-bodied Airbus 310 (A310), representing an increase in air cargo capacity of more than 1600 cubic feet, or an additional 20,000 kg of daily freight over the existing volume.

“FedEx Express Canada has tremendous confidence in the economy of Northern Alberta,” said Lisa Lisson, president of FedEx Express Canada.

“This upgrade in cargo capacity signifies to all businesses and consumers our determination to provide industry-leading convenience and connectivity between Edmonton and the rest of the world.”

Customers shipping from Edmonton with FedEx Express will continue to benefit from the FedEx suite of shipping solutions such as FedEx International Priority (IP), and FedEx International Priority Freight (IPF) as well as next-business-day delivery and two-business-day delivery respectively.

FedEx said the announcement was a “milestone” for Alberta’s capital, as the FedEx Express A310 will be the only wide-bodied all-cargo airplane committed to daily flights in and out of EIA.

The first FedEx A310 is expected to arrive in early January 2013 and flights will occur daily from Monday to Friday.
