TNT Express partners with ParcelPoint for Australian parcel re-delivery

TNT Express has launched a three-month pilot project in Australia offering a new re-delivery service for missed parcel deliveries. The company is partnering with ParcelPoint, an Australian company that launched a network of parcel shops in July, at which consumers can have parcels sent, or can send parcels including product returns.

ParcelPoint outlets are run by independent retailers such as grocery stores, similar to CollectPlus and myHermes ParcelShops in the UK and Kiala parcel shops in Europe.

TNT Express said it began a three-month trial of the new partnership with ParcelPoint in the Brisbane Metropolitan area last Wednesday (12th December).

The partnership will apply to TNT’s National Express suite of products – 9.00, 10.00, 12.00 and Overnight – allowing time-definite parcels to be redelivered to a ParcelPoint outlet.

TNT Express said the service would mean providing a “handy parcel delivery solution” for customers, offering them a “convenient way to collect their missed deliveries”.

“ParcelPoint operates over 1,000 stores nationally that offer extended hours, seven days a week as collection and return points. They also provide regular communication of parcel availability via email and SMS,” the company said.

“This new model provides us with an opportunity to further delight our customers with convenience and flexibility.”

ParcelPoint attracts retailers to run its outlets as ParcelPoint Agents by providing commissions from every parcel handled, and by pointing to the increase in foot traffic that parcel services can mean for their existing retail businesses.

Parcel recipients have their parcel delivered to their chosen ParcelPoint by inputting its address in the online or click and collect purchase process. When the parcel is delivered to the ParcelPoint, the recipient receives a text or email alert, and typically collects it in one or two days’ time.

TNT Express is currently in the process of being acquired by UPS, which earlier this year revealed its interest in the concept of parcel shops as alternative collection points with the acquisition of the Kiala network.
