Nightline expands network as parcel traffic grows 20%
Irish parcel carrier Nightline has opened two additional depots as it benefits from a greater share of the country’s ecommerce delivery market. The firm has recently added two new depots to its network, located in Tralee and near Dublin Airport, to help process the extra parcel volumes and further improve its nationwide delivery infrastructure.
The Dublin-based company has seen a 20% increase in parcel traffic the last 12 months alone, and now handles a million items per month.
The company’s CEO, John Tuohy, said the volume increase was largely due to winning work with a succession of major online retailers.
“Our new premises are strategic locations and will play key roles in increasing our ability to handle items coming into Ireland and getting parcels even more quickly to destinations in the west of the country.
“We are now dealing with close to one in every three parcels on Irish roads. As Ireland generates more online sales for businesses at home and abroad, retailers, in particular, are becoming more acutely aware of the need to have a reliable partner with a comprehensive coverage able to fulfill customer deliveries wherever on the island they may be.”
Jobs
The new depots in Tralee and Dublin have involved the creation of additional local jobs for drivers and depot staff and bring to the total number of Nightline’s Irish depots to nine.
The company already has facilities in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Waterford, Galway, Sligo and Limerick.
They follow a significant surge in parcel traffic for Nightline. Mr Tuohy has revealed that, in 2011, the company moved just over 10.5m items while volumes this year are set to top 12m.
The news crowns another successful 12 months for Nightline during which Mr Tuohy and his fellow founder and Chief Operating Officer, Dave Field, celebrated their 20th year in business.
The pair were instrumental in the launch of Parcel Motel, a nationwide network of 400 self-service parcel locker terminals designed to make e-shopping even more convenient for consumers.
Tuohy said: “The adoption of Parcel Motel by so many consumers since its launch in the Summer has also enhanced our ability to make deliveries even more efficient than they had previously been.”
Since being founded in May 1992, Nightline has won significant business among internationally-renowned mobile phone, tobacco, pharmaceutical, retail, leisure and computer brands.
