TZ Ltd to supply parcel terminals for Poste Italiane pilot
Australian company TZ Limited is set to supply Poste Italiane with its automated parcel locker terminals for a new pilot. The company revealed today that its integration partner, FBA Italy Automation and Logistics, won the contract to supply the technology for the pilot.
The programme is due to see deployment early in the New Year, TZ said.
FBA Italy, which is based at Pavia, just south of Milan, is already a supplier of materials handling systems for Poste Italiane, winning the parcel terminal contract through a competitive tender.
TZ said it believed that if the pilot programme proves successful, Poste Italiane would want to build a parcel locker terminal network throughout Italy.
The terminals provide alternative drop-off and collection points for parcels, in which consumers can be sent personal codes by email or text message in order to access the specific locker holding their packages. The concept offers particular interest for e-commerce delivery, allowing consumers to access Internet purchases when they cannot be at home to receive items.
TZ, which is led by Australian entrepreneur Mark Bouris, is already providing its locker terminals for Singapore’s SingPost, and Australian parcel and logistics company Toll Group.
Kenneth Ting, the executive director of TZ Limited, said the Italian project was another milestone for his company, showing that it could win postal business in Europe against the “traditional” European-based parcel locker manufacturers.
He said: “This is a significant endorsement of our technology and clearly demonstrates that our offering is recognised as being world class and competitive on the world scale.”
