UK’s GFS expanding as parcel volumes rise

UK parcel and carrier management firm GFS has doubled the number of employees at its Cheshire consolidation depot. The move within a year of the facility opening in Warrington comes on the back of a “considerable” rise in the number of parcels handled by GFS, the company said.

GFS was founded in 2001 and now moves about 10m parcels a year on behalf of clients in the retail, financial, leisure and engineering sectors.

The company said that expanding its customer service, sales and operations staff at the Taurus Business Park depot to 22 should lead to a further increase in staff numbers as GFS develops its customer service team.

“What we’ve seen over the last year fully justifies the strategy put in place last year which saw us begin operations at Warrington, move to larger headquarters in Sussex and open our first overseas office in Athens,” said commercial director Daniel Ennor.

“The continued growth in the volume of parcels generated by online shopping has been a significant element but is not the only factor. Both consumers and businesses are now demanding greater flexibility than ever before in terms of delivery and the support of specialists to manage parcels moved via a wide variety of different methods. That means a larger role for the kind of proactive customer service that we offer, helping deal with any issues which might arise before they become a problem for either the shipper or the recipient.”

Ennor said that the growth of the business meant a need for capable individuals to join GFS across all its divisions, not only in customer service.

“We are confident that, as we continue to grow, further opportunities will appear – in Cheshire and at our other sites,” he said.
